  She snapped, “I know who the Luigsech squires are and I know who I am. The issue here is not me. It’s that I. Don’t. Know. You! And I don’t trust you. And everythin’ around me has gone to shit from the minute you showed up in my life. I am not huntin’ those volumes to have you take the information away from me then destroy the supernatural world.”

  He shook his head. “I have told ya enough for ya to realize I do not plan to harm others with the grimoire.”

  “Really? You also claim that red dragon destroying forests in Ukraine and Finland is an imposter. You have called me a liar and now claim I’m an imposter, but who are you? I think you’re the imposter. It’s you who should know that you must prove you are of the Treoir family to ask for their history.”

  “I am family.”

  “Anyone can claim that. A true Treoir would be able to prove it.” She crossed her arms, letting him know this was the moment she took her stand. His man Quinn had been gone for hours. If they had such a great network of intelligence, he should have gotten back by now.

  If she helped Drake find the volumes, she’d hand over the only hope she had for saving Fenella if a dark druid had captured her friend. Casidhe had one card to play and it was the grimoire.

  Drake took a step foward.

  She backed up.

  He kept coming until her back hit a wall. Dipping his head close, he held her captive with his steely gaze. She couldn’t breathe.

  Her body had a mind of its own and cared nothing about her tenuous situation. She couldn’t move or think clearly.

  His face slowly lowered until she could see every gray fleck in his eyes. Her heart thumped madly.

  Then his eyes turned a molten silver and glowed. His black pupils elongated. When he spoke, his voice dropped inhumanly deep into an unnatural sound.

  “I am Daegan of the Treoir family. I. Am. The red dragon. Time to prove ya are truly a Luigsech!”

  Power boiled around them.

  Her throat locked up tight. She struggled to cry out, “No! You can’t be!”
